Licking Heights Local Schools has been honored with the title of 2024 Nonprofit of the Year by the Pataskala Area Chamber of Commerce (PACC). This recognition came after nominations from fellow Chamber members, with the PACC Board of Directors ultimately selecting the district for its outstanding contributions throughout the year. The district’s achievements were particularly noteworthy and included the opening of three new educational buildings: Lima Ridge Elementary School, an Athletics Complex, and a Transportation Center, in addition to a new wing at the high school. These initiatives reflect the district’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure and enhancing the learning environment for its students.
In addition to significant infrastructural advancements, Licking Heights garnered a 4.5-star overall rating from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW), indicating substantial progress in several educational metrics. The district was particularly proud of its gains in areas such as Academic Progress, Gap Closing, and Early Literacy, where it achieved the second-highest rate of academic growth in the state. These improvements speak highly of the district’s educational strategies and the effectiveness of its teaching staff in fostering an environment conducive to learning and development.
A pivotal moment for the district included receiving a $2.2 million Career Technical Education Equipment Grant from ODEW. This grant is aimed at bolstering the New Heights workforce preparation program, which is designed to equip students with essential skills for entering the workforce. Such initiatives embody the district’s forward-thinking approach to education, ensuring that students are adequately prepared for future career opportunities in a competitive job market. The emphasis on career readiness reflects the district’s understanding of the evolving demands placed upon today’s students.
Moreover, Licking Heights successfully undertook a complete rebranding effort, which included establishing a symbolic academic identity that resonates with its values and mission. Alongside this rebranding, the district also developed its first-ever Strategic Plan, which focuses on sustainable long-term growth and the overall success of its students. This strategic initiative demonstrates a proactive approach to education, as it outlines clear goals intended to foster a thriving school community geared towards exemplary academic performance.
Superintendent Dr. Kevin S. Miller expressed deep gratitude for the award, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the district’s achievements. He attributed the recognition to the fruitful partnerships between the schools, local businesses, and community members. Dr. Miller underscored that strong community engagement is a fundamental element of the district’s success and progress. Recognizing the collective contributions of staff, partners, students, and families, he acknowledged that this honor reflects a shared commitment to improving educational outcomes.
The award ceremony, where Dr. Miller will accept the accolade on behalf of the district, is scheduled for December 12 during the PACC Holiday Party at the Williams Farm Venue. This recognition means a great deal to the Licking Heights Local Schools community, encapsulating the collaborative spirit and dedication that defines the district’s mission. The affirmation from the Pataskala Chamber reinforces the value of community-oriented educational initiatives and highlights the importance of collective effort in pursuing excellence in education.
