Sheriff Michael J. Filicetti announced the deployment of the Inmate Identification and Recognition System (IRIS) to allow for improved identification processes beyond the confines of the county jail, where the technology had previously been utilized. With this advancement, deputies patroling the area will be able to quickly identify individuals in the IRIS database without needing to rely solely on traditional identification methods. Niagara County, located in the western part of New York State, is not only known for its proximity to Niagara Falls but also shares a border with Canada. Sheriff Filicetti has emphasized this point, noting that IRIS technology reduces the chances of misidentification, ultimately leading to more reliable interactions between law enforcement personnel and community members.
